The U.S. Census Bureau is ramping up its New York recruiting efforts to hire up to 179,000 temporary, part-time census takers in communities across the state.
The Census positions are a great way for holiday seasonal workers, students, retirees and workers in the gig economy to line up spring and summer employment opportunities.
The positions offer competitive pay ($20-$28 per hour, depending on your county), flexible hours, paid training, and weekly paychecks.

Census 2020 is our opportunity to shape the future. EVERY person, regardless of immigration status, who resides in the U.S. should be counted and thus represented.
For New Yorkers, ensuring an accurate count is particularly important. In the 2010 census, New York lost two congressional seats and missed out on significant federal funding. Another undercount of our population, particularly of immigrant communities and communities of color, poses a serious threat to to our democracy. To combat fear of participation, it’s important that our Census workers are members of our own communities. We encourage you to share these opportunities widely to ensure local jobs are filled by local residents.
