Seventy-nine percent of New Yorkers with disabilities are out of work, a staggering statistic considering New York’s unemployment rate is four percent.
For the past two years the NYC Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities’ employment program NYC: ATWORK has been working closely with local businesses to connect qualified candidates with disabilities to quality jobs. In that time, NYC: ATWORK have successfully placed over 275 people with disabilities into living wage jobs with growth potential.
This new campaign highlights the value real New Yorkers with different disabilities bring to employers across various industries and emphasizes the positive impact they have had on workplace culture. The message is simple, “Hire someone with a disability. It’s just good business.”
This campaign includes portrait shots and action shots of employees and supervisors at six New York businesses including Uniqlo, the TWA Hotel, Transitional Services for New York, Advance Care Alliance, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services, and the Frick Collection.
